Mrs. Lee Gives Students an Update on Her Health |
The following is from a short speech that Mrs. Lee gave to students after Mass on September 1st.
Welcome back to school-we've missed you! Last May , if you were at SACS, you heard that I had cancer and that it was very serious. This week I have already had lots of questions mostly from the younger children. Questions like, "Is that your hair Mrs. Lee?" and "I thought you had cancer?" Good questions! I'll answer the hair question first because that is easy. This is not my hair it is a wig. When I started my chemotherapy treatments I lost my hair. That was hard for me as you can imagine. Once I'm done with chemotherapy my hair will grow back-I'm asking Santa for my own hair back for Christmas! The second question is not as easy to answer. I have had 5 doses of chemotherapy and have one more next week-September 9. That is suppose to be my last dose. About a month ago I had a scan that showed that some of the tumors in my lungs were gone and some shrinking. So that was good news. September 27 I will have a PET scan and then find out if all the tumors are gone. If they aren't they may do radiation. My hope and prayers are that the cancer will be all gone. And if only a little is left that the radiation will take care of the rest. But only God knows if the cancer is gone. I thank you for wearing your Lee strong bracelets. They have kept me strong this summer. I have felt very loved. I want to thank you for the cards and those who have written on my caring bridge site- especially middle schooler Allison Maddock who never missed a week to write something encouraging and inspirational. I thank our staff for the meals they have provided. Many days I did not feel like cooking. Mother Theresa of Culcutta is one of my favorite "soon to be" saints. She said, "If we really fully belong to God, then we must be at his disposal and we must trust in him. We must never be preoccupied with the future. There is no reason to be. God is here!"
So today, I thank God that I feel well enough to work full time. I thank God for cancer because it has caused me to stop and remember what is important. You are important! Why? Because you are children of GOd and you are greatly loved by God and by me. Have a great school year and please keep praying for me! Love, Mrs. Lee |

Meet the New Teacher/Courtney Bush |
| I am excited to join the SACS community. I have taught all areas of music (classroom, instrumental, and vocal) to all ages of students Kindergarten-Twelfth Grade, and have a special interest for teaching at the middle school level. I began my teaching career at St. Wenceslaus School in New Prague, where I taught classroom music and started the school's band and choir programs. I taught middle and high school vocal and instrumental music in Mora, MN, and, most recently, I taught elementary classroom music and elementary band in Ellendale, MN.
I am a graduate of the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN, and this spring I completed my Master of Arts in Music Education degree, with an Orff Schulwerk emphasis, at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. |
Meet the New Teacher/Ben Loonan |
My name is Ben Loonan and I am an alumni of SACS. Most recently I graduated from St. John's University with my degree in education. This past spring I had a long-term sub position at SACS and did not want to leave. This is my first full time teaching position and I am very excited to be joining the staff at SACS! |
Meet the New Teacher/Lynn Mabee |
| I am a long time SACS fan. I have been involved with SACS as a parent, volunteer, and substitute teacher. My son just graduated this past year from SACS and my daughter will be in fourth grade this fall. I have had five long-term substitute positions at SACS, three of which have been in Kindergarten. I have loved every minute of my time in these positions. I began my teaching career in Harlan, KY at a Catholic mission school in the mountains. I taught all grades first through eighth with most of my six years there in first and second grades. What a great experience that was! I then taught at St. Richard's (now Blessed Trinity) in Richfield for four years. The Shakopee District was my next venture where I substitute taught for several years and then was hired as a second grade teacher. After that I took some time off to teach my own children. When they were school age I began subbing again which brought me to SACS.
I am so excited to join the first grade teaching team. I plan to incorporate Spanish into the curriculum through games, songs, and conversation. I have also been known to add German into my teaching day. Believe me, at this age those first graders absorb everything so fast. We will have a great time with it. I also bring elements of the Good Shepherd program to the classroom. This involves a hands on approach to learning about the Bible and Liturgy. It makes the Mass come alive for children. Also, I can 't wait to share my three bin collection of wonderful children's literature. I love the great outdoors with camping, bonfires, sailing, etc. I enjoy going on family bike rides with Joe, my husband, Nick, my son and Maria, my daughter. I have also been known to hold up in a large log cabin for four days with friends and scrapbook! I am looking so forward to this coming year and working with your enthusiastic first graders. I feel blessed to be a part of SACS. |
SACS Financial Information |
If your family qualified for SACS financial aid you most likely will qualify for free and reduced lunch prices. In the middle of the district calendar that was mailed out to all households in the district is an “Application for Educational Benefits”. There is a sliding scale that will indicate for you if your family is eligible based on income. By filling out this form your family could receive free or reduced lunch for your children and also get a discount of free craft fee for SACS. Free eligibility would make lunch and craft fees free and reduced would give you a 50% discount. The only activities that this does not include are those outside vendors that come to SACS to offer services such as chess club, karate and watch me draw though many of these vendors also have their own scholarship programs. We appreciate having your family at SACS and we will work with your family if you do not qualify under the strict government standards for free and reduced lunch. If you have any questions please call Diane Lee at (952)445-3387 ext. 141 or email at dlee@sacsschools.org.
